Chapter Four

Something was bothering Dale. Aidan could tell that from the moment he walked into the classroom. Nothing most would recognize but he found himself pretty confident in reading the man who had entered his life.

He sliced his gaze to the right and focused on the man who’d chosen to sit two seats away from him. The guy wasn’t listening to the lecture but staring between him and Dale. And the man’s expression was decidedly less than friendly.

“Do you think you’re going to keep him from me?”

Looking up from his notes, Aidan frowned. “Excuse me?” He focused back on the keyboard on his lap. “Are you talking to me? Or someone else. I hope it’s someone else since I have a class to pay attention to with finals coming up.”

The guy’s expression went from simmering to full-fledged in seconds, and Aidan struggled not to punch the man in the face. That’s why he hadn’t completed school yet. He let his emotions get the best of him. It wasn’t happening this time. He had weeks left until he was finished. Weeks. And he’d be damned if he let some dumbass derail his plans.

“Damn straight I’m talking to you and you know exactly who I’m talking about. Dale.”

Aidan finished copying the notes off the final whiteboard and shut the lid on his computer, exchanging it for paper notes. He was used to taking notes by hand and transcribing them later.

“Are you talking about Professor Keenan?”

“So you admit you’re trying to keep us apart?”

“I don’t even know who the fuck you are. All I do know is you’re pissing me off because you won’t keep your goddamn mouth shut while I’m trying to listen to this class.” Aidan faced him and pointed a finger at him. “If you want to talk, go to some other place in the auditorium. It’s fucking huge. Get away from me.”

Dale looked up at them. “Is there a problem, gentlemen?”

The one to his right said no.

“Yes.” He gathered his items. “This asshole wants to sit and talk about shit that has nothing to do with class and he’s making it hard for me to hear you.” Aidan moved down to the first row. Not his preferred seating but, he had to do what was necessary to get his degree. “Better now.”

He put his notebook back on his lap and waited for Dale to continue. Aidan wasn’t a fool. That man had something with Dale, what, he may not know but there was a past there. No reason for him to attack Aidan if he wasn’t feeling threatened. Aidan pushed the guy out of his mind and got back to listening about history.

When the class ended and students were leaving, he took his time packing up his bag. After it was ready, he left it on the seat and walked up behind the girl talking to Dale currently and waited his turn.

“Mr. Nelson?” he asked when the young woman walked off.

“Yes. I was wondering if I can get a copy of these notes? I missed a section when your boyfriend was trying to threaten me.
